Williams Birthday & Great Barrier Reef Diving 12th Jan

Well this had to be the highlight of the holiday ..... William turning 7, and our boat trip out to 'Reef World' a pontoon on the Great Barrier Reef.

The day started with a 6.25am bed invasion by an excited William and Emma.  The alarm was set for 6.30 anyway, so not too much of a problem, although I'd rather be awoken by the soothing tones of Jack Johnson than William jumping on me!!!!
So cards and present opening in bed was the first order of the day..... Wiliam is now fully kitted out with spy gear, black clothes for stealthy night operations, torch, secret message pens, a spy codes book & notepad for logging missions, a pair of binoculars and most important of all ... Grown up walkie talkies for operational activities..... As you can see they went down a storm with both William and Emma!
Then a great big breakfast by the poolside in the hotel...
And a short walk to the harbour to queue for our boat.
... Glad to see those binoculars coming in handy!
The weather forecast for the day was some cloud, moderate winds .... And 'choppy' seas..... That was probably an understatement as we had people making full use of their sick bags all around us!   Not pleasant to say the least!  Em and Will were fine until about 1 hour in to the 2 hour journey, but then started to look a little grey!
Anyway, we got there eventually, and jumped straight onto the glass bottom boat for a quick tour of the reef.
We then donned our attractive stinger suits as it's jellyfish season at the moment (although thankfully we didn't see any) and headed for the launch platform!
The water was really warm, and we got straight in there.  The tide was really strong, and the water a little choppy, so took a while to acclimatise, but needless to say it was amazing.
This bad boy was enormous!!! ............
Thank you again AD for the loan of the underwater camera....it was amazing!
William and Emma then jumped out and went to the viewing windows beneath the pontoon..... Leaving Mummy and Daddy to have an explore ..... I dived down so they could see me and took this photo!
....... Snorkelling selfie!
It was then sadly time to hang up our flippers and head back to the boat just as they were packing away lunch.  We managed to grab some ingredients for a ham sandwich as we'd worked up quite an appetite with those currents!
Then off we set for home, with plenty more sick bags required for some but not for us thankfully!
I've never actually seen anyone go green before, but two Chinese ladies in particular really excelled in it. It was particularly rough on the way home, big waves and one poor woman collapsed and had 5 of the crew manhandle her in side to the Cabin.

Emma bless her started to feel the effects, and curled up on the floor in a ball for the rest of the journey. Wiliam loved the big waves, sat right in the path if the spray with his goggles on, laughing like a mad person!  Apparently it was better than the Vampire ride at Chessington!  Those passengers who weren't utilising their sick bags and the crew who weren't helping them thought William was hilarious!
Once things had calmed down a little and we were in the shelter of the islands, William then went for a special treat to the front of the boat to see the Captain & sit in the Captains chair!
Then back into the Harbour without William steering thankfully!
Then back to the hotel to get ready for dinner at Williams choice of restaurant 'The Mantaray Cafe' where some well travelled dinosaur candles from England made their way onto a cake as a surprise for William..... It was so lovely, everyone in the restaurant was singing Happy Birthday and cheering him on!!
Happy Birthday our wonderful, clever, funny little boy, we love you xxxxxxxxxx
